The RSS Hosts IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast 2022

Under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, RSS women science specialists joined other women scientists across the globe, via a virtual function, in celebrating the IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast 2022, which was held this year under the theme “Empowering Diversity in Science”.

HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Science for Peace, in her speech, welcomed the keynote speakers and praised the contribution of women science specialists at RSS.  HRH also highlighted the importance of diversity in science, and stressed the need to empower women scientists and enhance gender equality in the workplace, where HRH said that the central goal is to establish an active network of both men and women to overcome the barriers to gender equality in science and through this global function, we can facilitate the formation of communities on a local, regional, and international scale to effectively share ideas and strategies for progress.

The audience listened to two keynote speeches, the first by Dr Jwan Ibinni from the Hashemite University and the second by Dr Suhair Sunoqrot from

the Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan. Each keynote speaker presented highlights from her scientific research journey and her reflections about diversity in science.

The IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast is an event that happens on a single day in February of each year in conjunction with the U.N Day of Women and Girls in Science. The aim is to celebrate the accomplishments of Women in Science and to inspire younger generations to pursue careers in science.

A central goal is also to establish an active network of both men and women to overcome the barriers to gender equality in science. The Global Breakfast facilitates the formation of communities on a local, regional, and international scale to effectively share ideas and strategies for progress.
