Objectives
The Train the Trainer program aims to generate trainers to promote Biosafety Biosecurity knowledge nationwide. The course includes theoretical and hands on training along with site visits. The aim of the course is two-fold:
- To give participants the subject matter knowledge and the teaching tools to become effective trainers; and
- To use these new skills to train other laboratory professionals and to work with laboratory directors to effect real improvements in biosafety and biosecurity practices, both at the individual laboratory professional and at the institutional level.
Target Group
Only selected candidates will be invited on the basis of their expertise in the field of biosafety and infectious disease research to participate in this course. Individuals who are playing a role as mentor, instructor, and managers/in charge of facilities are suitable to participate in this program.
Previous training in Biosafety Biosecurity is required.
Training Topics
At the end of the course, the participants will be able to:
- train other laboratory personnel in the principles and practice of biosafety and biosecurity;
- develop institutional biosafety and biosecurity plans and processes; and,
- lead in the creation of the institutional infrastructure required for a systems approach to biosafety and biosecurity.

About the Trainer
Dr Nisreen AL-Hmoud / Director of Bio-Safety & Bio-Security Centre
As a scientist, Dr. Nisreen AL-Hmoud is motivated to provide research that focuses on the public good; her research focuses on the preservation of human health and biodiversity. During the last fifteen years, she has dedicated her research to the development of scientific capacity in the fields of biosafety, water & food safety and security, and evaluation of environmental risks for scientists, government agencies, local communities and Non-Governmental Organizations in Jordan, the Middle East, and North Africa region. She is actively contributing to Biorisk Management capacity building programs both nationally and regionally.
Dr. AL-Hmoud is particularly interested in effective and sustainable scientific international cooperation. Her research collaborators include international NGOs, US-based scientists, and regional One Health networks. She promotes a holistic approach to research that takes into account microbiology, molecular biology, virology, toxicology and ecology to investigate the most effective methods to reduce health risks associated with naturally occurring infectious diseases and outbreaks.
