HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan welcomes a distinguished delegation from the People’s Republic of China to the campus

HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society, warmly welcomed yesterday, Thursday, 23 November, a distinguished delegation from the People’s Republic of China to the campus. HE Mr. Shang Yong, Distinguished Member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Vice-chairman of the CPPCC Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sport, led the delegation, which also included HE Ambassador Chen Chuadong, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan, HE Mr. Zheng Fuzhi, Former Vice-Minister and Chief Educational Inspector of the Ministry of Education of China, and Mr. Xu Kun, President of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, along with other respected delegates.

The meeting brought together representatives from the El Hassan Science City (EHSC), including Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, Secretary General of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, Prof. Wejdan Abu Alhija, President of the Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Eng. Rafat Assi, Vice President of the RSS, Dr. Nabeel Al Fayoumi, Advisor to HRH the RSS President for Technology, and Mr. Omar Hamarneh, Advisor to HRH the RSS President for Innovation and CEO of iPARK, as well as Directors from several RSS technical centres. Under the guidance of HRH Princess Sumaya, the discussions focused on future collaborations in the fields of science, technology, and innovation. During the meeting there was a strong emphasis on the significance of science for peace and its crucial role in fostering understanding and mutual development, particularly in areas such as disaster risk reduction, water, energy, food security, and climate change.

During the discussions, the President of PSUT shared exciting news about the recent achievements of the university, when on Wednesday night the PSUT team accomplished an extraordinary feat by achieving first place in the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Middle East and Central Asia in the computer track category!

As part of the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to explore the Jordan National Metrology Institute and the Bio-safety and Bio-security Centre at the RSS. These visits showcased the diverse scientific infrastructure available for collaborative projects at the RSS, and further deepened the understanding of the capabilities for future joint initiatives.

This visit reinforced the strong bonds and shared vision between the two countries in the fields of science, technology, education and innovation. It marked the beginning of a continued collaboration with immense potential for advancing scientific research, fostering cooperation, and driving socio-economic progress. Together, we hope that this partnership will contribute to a brighter future and facilitate mutually beneficial outcomes for both nations, in sha Allah.
